sox and travel

Wow, I’m down to the wire again with the whole packing thing. But first, let you know that Karrie won the contest. I’ve gotten her choice, but I’ll leave it to her to reveal it to you on her own blog when she gets it.

Oh dear.

I guess I really could have gotten an entire pair of footies out of one skein of Sweet Georgia! Sometimes small feet are a good thing. Now if it was lace, I could have done a little more.

I decided I must have Calorimetry by tomorrow for wearing in New York. I’m using Louisa Harding Grace in Brown. It’s pretty. I originally bought this yarn for Fetching, but rather than buy a second skein, I’m opting for Calorimetry. I think I can finish it by the time my plane arrives, don’t you? It’s 120 stitches and ~32 rows of ribbing and they are short rows! I should pack a button.

I just saw something to make a yarn dieter tremble. They are having a sale at Seaport Yarn in New York City. Unfortunately, on their website, they listed a yarn that I really wanted as Tahki Cotton Classic Dot. I’ve never seen it listed that way and I checked the net I called to ask about the sale, mentioning I had seen it online. The first response I got was “Well, I’m not the online store.” Well yes, but the ad for the sale is still on their website. She volunteered up the information that their sock yarn is on sale and then because she seemed kind of grumpy, I hung up instead of asking her whether Tahki Cotton Classic Dot is the same as Tahki Cotton Classic. It’s $35 a BAG. I also wanted to know if they carry it and whether or not they’ve run out of the sale yarn. You can read the ad, but I’m pretty sure it was at their store since Andrea is the owner of the New York store. (Also I clicked a link that said “in-store sales” to look at it.) Note 12/31/2007: They are really quite nice in person.

What if they meant Tahki Cotton Classic Color? That’s not the same thing at all!

The other thing is that Tahki Cotton Classic is that its not listed in their ‘what we have’ section. Well of course they might not of listed it. It’s just TCC, although I think JanuaryOne may have seriously increased its popularity, given that Cara’s miters are amazing. I’ve looked around and other people seem to have had an amazing time there and it’s possible I called just after closing, so I’ll be going anyway. (Hard to tell remember what time zone other people are in!) But you know what, if you don’t want to answer the phone, because you are closed, screen your calls! But still. Grump. Maybe I’ve just lived out of the east too long and I’ve gotten a bit soft.

One thing I should mention. It’s cash and checks only there (no tax on yarn though) and I have no idea what their out-of-state policy is on checks. So maybe that help will me yarn diet.

I have so much planned. Tomorrow I’m going to a Sit and Knit night which I found through meetup.com. I’m meeting my friend Julie there. She hasn’t knit in years, but she thought it would be something fun to do together. Go Julie! We might have to buy yarn for her though. I’m not sure she knows exactly what she’s in for $-wise, so I might bring some dishcloth yarn, the pattern and a pair of size 8s. I can always spare a pair of 8s.

Julie went to high school with my husband and is really good friends with one of his my husband’s friends’ younger sister. Incidentally, she was three years behind us at college. This is something I always forget, because I keep inviting her to our reunion stuff and she’s not in our cluster. My college does clusters. It’s more fun, but also those receiving a joint degree from the college and the conservatory take five years instead of four to finish school, so they get an opportunity to really see their classmates.

See you next week.

  • Congrats, Karrie!! (Doesn’t she come up with the most amazing things on her blog?!) Have a great trip!

  • Alas, Cotton Classic and Classic Cotton Dot are two different yarns. Dot is a slubby yarn and if I recall correctly it’s heavier than cotton classic. I think Tahki discontinued it, since I haven’t seen it around in a while.

  • Yummy looking chocolate yarn.

Hope you finish(ed) it on time.

    Best,
    firefly

  • Can you bring knitting on a plane? I have heard we cannot bring knitting needles on the plane.
