The first major stop we made was in Seattle, where we stayed with friends from college. We had dinner with other Seattle based Oberlin graduates and had a great time just hanging out and talking. What’s Pikes Place without stopping to check out the fish throwing?

Of course, we headed for Pikes Place straight away (the next morning) for some shopping and touring. I didn’t see any yarn there, but I remained hopeful. In fact, I got to see zero yarn stores in Washington during this trip. Next time, I’m traveling with knitters! Isn’t that a great view of Mt. Ranier from the market?

We also went to have a look at the Space Needle and the Science Fiction Museum. We didn’t go in, after all, we just wanted a quick peek! Then it was off to Pioneer Square. I have to say that Elliot Bay Books is a lovely looking store and I’ll have to check it out on my next trip to Seattle.

We ate at Browers, a Belgian brew pub. I had some really good pulled pork. Including the new faculty dinner someone threw on Monday, I’ve had great pulled pork three times since I’ve moved. What is it about pulled pork in the northwest?

  1. Oooo Pike market! I miss that market. I used to go there every weekend or so by bus.
