San Francisco, Art Fibers. The hallway to the second floor walk-up is filled with xeroxed pictures of models, whose sweaters have been cut-out and filled in with swatches. Clearly, you are headed to a place of fashion.
And fashion it is indeed, with yarn of every sort, eyelash and chunky. Mohair and silk wool blends are common here. Worsted weight is harder to come by.
Like Habu, yarn at Art Fibers is sold by the ounce rather than the yard. For the most part, the fibers come in a array of colors. Take for example, the Ming I found, a silk wool blend. I had my choice of rust, blue and many other colors (although I eventually settled on maroon). Additionally, many of the yarns are available at a cheaper price in dye hanks. I found it hard to keep my hands off of 1000-yard hanks of lace-weight silk and wool, despite the knowledge that it the silk would hardly make this a suitable fiber for a first time dyer like myself.
Karrie and Carmen arrived ahead of me and were already examining the fibers they keep in drawers. Soon after I got there, Anabel and her friend Christina, appeared and we found ourselves tasting various fibers.
Art Fibers is well aware that none of their fibers come with a set gauge and needle size attached to them. They encourage knitters to knit a sample and have set aside a special yarn-tasting area complete with needles (circular, straight AND double points) and fiber for you to try out your potential purchases. They even have drop spindles for spinners to have their own roving tasting. I sampled my Ming with a US Size 4 and found (not at all to my surprise) that I liked the fiber.
Other products at Art Fibers include needles, pattern books and buttons. The staff here is helpful and will kindly draw up a pattern for you using their knitting software. Unfortunately, the one on one attention can come at the price of speedy check out service on a busy day.
I purchased both the Ming and also these artisan crafted buttons from Vermont.
Overall, I had a terrific time at Art Fibers. I’ll give it a rating of 4 1/2 stars and an E for Everyone.
Art Fibers is located at 124 Sutter Street in San Francisco. It is a very short walk from Chinatown.

I really want to make the Twisted Stitch Gauntlets from Interweave Holiday Knits 2007. Probably just the thing for the two skeins of Louet Gems Merino that I’ve obtained from Ben Franklin. That is, if I don’t save them up for making the Katharine Hepburn sweater from Lace Style.
My other favorite project from that issue are the Teddy Bear and the Fireside Stocking.
I could definitely see the Fireside Stocking in a kind of pink, red, cream and green colorway. Do you think that’s too weird for snowflakes?
I’m also making some headway on my monkey socks for Monkey Swap Three. I knit the most of the entire foot on Monday and Wednesday nights and am just throwing in one more repeat before I get down to the toe. I’m using smaller needles for the toes and the heels in the hopes that they will wear well. Who knows why this particular heel took me four tries; this is my fourth pair of monkeys! My swap partner knows I’m a bit behind again, so all is okay. She’s behind too. (I’m in a direct exchange with the hostess in fact.) It’s going to be great. I can’t stop myself picking up additional monkey items to throw into the package.
I still want to know how it is my life went from -60 to 100 in the space of a month. It’s true that my job is very intense but it’s quite a change from unemployment and under employment. Now I can’t stop long enough around the trainings and the extensive commuting to knit a pair of socks? It’s not so bad.

I had a lot of errands to do this morning. The first one was the doctor’s office, where I had to have an appointment so they could order a bunch of fun blood tests. Some of this stuff drives me crazy – where you need an actual appointment so that they can send you elsewhere on another day. Anyway, in the office, I knit two rows on my Swallowtail Shawl.
Then I did some failed errands (I attempted to buy blocking pins) and managed to end up in Silverton at their knitting shop. I caved and bought some Size 6 Addi Lace needles. And then I had to try them out. So I knit three or four rows there. I’m going to have to get the pins at the hardware store or maybe at OFF. They will be cheaper at the hardware store.
Then I decided to find out why the car has been rattling, so I took the car to the exhaust guys and they had a look. They decided to remove an after-market part and the car seems to be quieter. Cost to me? Nothing. Score one for the car guys While there I knit another two rows or so. The funny thing is that of all my errands, the car one was the shortest. I’m thinking it’s the new Addi Lace needles. They really are faster.
There is no way that I’ll be done in time for OFF. In meantime, I’m in denial and knitting as fast as I can knit lace, which on these needles, is pd fast. I’ve finished the 10th repeat on the Budding Lace 2 chart and am working had to get to the next set of charts. I suspect I’ll be slowed down significantly by those. If anyone has any advice on blocking sea cell, let me know please. I hear I need less soaking time.

I ripped out the beginnings of my Swallowtail Shawl and replaced the Cherry Tree Hill with the Sea Silk. I love the Cherry Tree Hill, but it was knitting up way too small. After doing half the repeats, it’s starting to get a bit unwieldly. Do you think I can finish it in time to have it blocked and cry for the Oregon Fiber Festival?
Have I mentioned that this is my first fiber festival? I’ve been to the Scottish festival in Vermont and that includes some fiber related activities (sheepdog trials for example), but never one wholly dedicated to fiber. And this after living a few hours from Estes, Colorado. Although, Estes looked like it might be a crowded that weekend. The last time I didn’t go because I’d been to a wedding in Boulder the day before and hadn’t felt like driving over 2 hours north 2 days in a row.
I want to take a class, but I can’t justify it unless the apartment I end up with turns out to be less than $500 a month.

Be still my competitive beating heart. I just found out that Sock Wars II (which I think should be called The Sock Strikes Back) is going to take place in the middle of October! Will I make it past round 2 (previously I made it past round 1)? Will I receive a beautiful pair of socks? Will there be a repeat winner? Stay tuned to find out.

First let me address the obvious. Where did my entire sidebar go? The answer is, I have no freaking idea. This is not a good thing because new people have been visiting and now they have no guide.
Second, I have cause to celebrate. While I did not find an apartment in Eugene today, I did find a few knitting groups. A girl has got to have her priorities in order! I met some new knitters, including the king of lace (I’m not quite clear on his name). I think he might be a big time sample knitter.
My initial stop was the Ben Franklin Craft store mainly because that made the most geographic sense. (Buy from independent and locally!) But if you really want the link, here you go. I just wanted to see if they really did carry Louet and Malabrigo and they do. The also carry Mongolian Cashmere if that’s any measure of quality. So I joined their e-mail list for sales. It’s nice to see a big craft store exploring the world of fiber.
After looking at some apartments (which were out of my budget) and doing a whole lot of driving around, I decided I had just enough time to make it to the Knit Shop. I got a great look at their walls of color which include all sorts of great things. I was particularly pleased to see that they carry the Malabrigo laceweight which is something I keep lusting after, for no particular reason. I had about 7 minutes to look around before closing time (my decision not theirs). Anyway, I asked about knitting groups in the area and was promptly informed that there was a guild meeting at 7. So I went! This is why you should always carry your knitting on you.
There are a few other shops that I will check out later. I spent the session knitting and ripping a section of my old rose socks and am trying to make some changes for the top of the foot. I haven’t gone into huge depths with cables, so I’m still working a lot of things out. What I really need is help from Anabel. (Poke.) I tried drawing some charts, but I think I’ll try using my computer instead. That will make it easier to move the cable patterns around to my liking. There’s a knitting font you can download in a couple of different places. There’s one from Knitting Universe for Macintosh. If you have a PC, try the one from XRX Inc or the one by Carol Taylor. If you want to get them on to your PDA, check out the explanation from Access.
I met the Yarn Mafia over at the Sinister Spinster and was impressed by her lace. She works at the shop and gave me the lowdown on local knitting groups. At this rate, I’ll be knitting four days a week. She appears to be a) a huge enabler b) a good teacher c) good at lace and d) fiber obsessed. I met a lot of other people too but none of them have blogs. They are quite important – I mean I met the King of Lace! (That’s just my name for him.) I just can’t point you to them. I will probably see quite a few of those people at Oregon Flock and Fiber and not remember any names. I don’t think I took many names. Does this mean I’m not kicking ass?

I see all these beautiful monkey socks being made over at the Monkey Sock Swap and despite my best searches through my stash, I’ve had trouble finding the luscious fall colors that I want to use. So I went over to the Loopy Ewe and found the perfect thing. If you are my swap partner, no peeping! Remember, we are pretending that you don’t know it’s me. Of course, while I was there some yarn jumped into my cart. Cough. Well it was at an introductory price and it seemed a shame to pay for shipping for just one skein of yarn. If you snoop around on their website, you’ll find it. Hint: The company is in New England.
I’ve also purchased one of the monkey items. The others are going to take some tracking down.
Do you realize, this is going to be my fourth pair of monkey socks? I’m going to have change something up! How funny that the monkey socks turned out to be a bit addictive.

The first pair of socks that I’m trying to finish for Knit Your Second Sock September are the BFF socks by Cookie. Cookie and Kristi’s website, Knitter’s Anonymous went kablooie and while it will be up again soonish, there is no link available to the pattern currently.
I freaked myself out because I’d misplaced the final page of instructions. So I cleaned house a bit and put away all my newer knitting patterns and it surfaced.

The first task on these socks was to trip out the foot of the finished first sock. The leg of the second sock has been done for a while, but when I got to it, I noticed that the way the cables were placed over the foot didn’t match on both socks. I realized that I did it wrong on the first sock and ripped it all the way back. It’s a bit unfortunate, because that sock fit beautifully and I fear that I’ve already misplaced the notes that I made detailing the number of rows in the heel and the number of cables made before I did the toe.
I didn’t like the toe on this sock, so I will probably redo it. The only other change that I made was to do a five-row cable instead of a six-row cable. I read a good suggestion somewhere about throwing odd numbered cables into patterns knit in the round just because you can. It probably came out of Cables Untangled by Melissa Leapman.
I keep forgetting that I did this though, so I keep ripping out the cables. And then of course I lose count. It’s a simple sock. Really.
I am resisting the temptation to redo the heel on this sock. I’ll know if I did it wrong if I run out of yarn!

I wish I understood copyright laws better. This is mainly because I want to do some sock designs, but it seems like every lace pattern ever made is in a book somewhere. So far, it seems like it’s okay to do whatI’m about to do, which is to take a motif and transform it to produce something wholly new, yet still very familiar. I think the original motif is really very recognizable, but it’s so simple, I’m not sure there’s a way around using it. It’s a very basic small chart, but I’m changing the numbers and the repetitions and the placement in a very unique way, I think. I’m really just guessing, so wish me luck with the socks I’m designing. They are going to be pretty. As in PURTY.

The Oregon Coast is gorgeous. There are also beautiful wonderful yarn shops on the Oregon Coast, although somehow we only managed to stop at Nestucca Bay Yarns again. While I was once again denied some of their lovely handpaints, I did get to see a lot of the fall colors for Mountain Colors. I also picked up some more Tahki Cotton Classic there for my miters. I bought every color that they had on sale that I hadn’t gotten previously for a total of two additional colors.
I also purchased some yarn to make my friend Liz a hat. Read the rest of this entry »

My sock package arrived from my Secret Pal, Regenia, and what a package it is!
The Reptilian Lace socks were knit in Claudia’s Hand paint in some gorgeous shades of green and tan, aka “Eat Your Veggies”. They are beautiful and the fit is great! Also included in the package were several yummy bonuses including Dr. Seus’ Sour Suckers, seasoning and recipes from the Blue Plum Festival, a card of the old downtown area, coffee and tea, a cute tin for notions and some wonderful hand-spun from Gatlinburg, TN!

Unfortunately my camera card appears to be dead and it won’t hold a photo. I stole one from Regenia though so you can at least see the socks if not the wonderful package. I’ll have to get a new one before leaving for Seattle tomorrow. I’ll get a photo in here eventually. Problem solved. I love the green theme.
The word on the socks I’m making is that they are going well and that I’m well into the second sock. Although, I must admit I lost a few minutes on the toe in the first sock when someone decided to take it under the guest futon! Since I’m not doing the driving, I should be done by Tuesday and I’ll be able to mail them out! Hooray! I’ll be hunting around Seattle for a choice goodie or something to include.
The next page contains a Loopy Ewe sock club spoiler. So if you haven’t got your yarn for the Fall yet, don’t look! Read the rest of this entry »

In my two weeks in Oregon, I’ve been to three yarn shops in three cities. None of them we’re in Salem. No, it’s not the beginning of a logic problem. The first was in Portland. During the Harry Potter wait, I realized I’d left my size 1 needle behind in the car, but I knew that Knit Purl was nearby, so I used the needles as an excuse to check out the shop. I really liked the variety of yarns they carried. There were several things there that I’d never seen all in one shop, or I’d only seen online, as well as some unique items. I had a brain fart last night. Thank goodness for the net. My instructions for an Easy Raglan baby sweater, say “Work straight until sleeve measures 7″ or desired length to cuff, ending with a purl row.” Without the usual statement of from underarm to cuff, I was utterly confused. Obviously I don’t knit much for other people.
I used my brain though and I examined it by holding the sleeve against the garment. Like the sweatshirt I was wearing, it seemed that if you fold the sleeve at the shoulder seam towards the center of the garment, the bottom of the sleeve (with the underarm at 6″) would hit the waist of the garment after 7″ and the ribbing. Needle Size: US 11

It must be FO week. (This does not mean that there will be an FO tomorrow.) Note the total lack of a rear side and the absence of the 272 bobbles. I conferred with Josh and we agreed that the bobbles, in fuschia, would be ‘a little over the top.’ Now that’s an understatement. I also replaced the i-cord edging with the ruffles to make up for the lack of bobbles. I also left out the second side, which I thought would be too warm. Besides, I had planned for it to be teal god, the color would have been awful. I’ve taken the nearly 3′ x 3′ square of stockinette, frogged and some of it and wound it (go ball winder go). I’m sure I can felt something nice out the remainder. I originally had a second blanket planned in Lamb’s Pride Bulky and I felt that it would have been a better color choice, but I sold that one.
Maybe tomorrow you’ll see a giant teal bag (or not – it’s super wash). Moving sure is inspiring.

I’m in a couple sock swaps this year. And for the first time, I’m picking out the sock patterns that I’m knitting for someone else. It’s hard to choose a pattern for someone else and to figure out the negative ease for their foot.
I made a huge mistake with the Hurricane Swap party, attempting to knit a really cool pattern. I thought, hey, it’s only one sock, how hard could it be? After a while, I realized that a) it looked terrible in the yarn I’d gotten for my swap partner and b) that the pattern wasn’t a great choice when you don’t really have the other person’s foot at hand,, so to speak. Now I’m trying to pick out something stretchy for my Sockapalooza pal. I’ve looked in her Ravelry queue and I have some ideas. The yarn is so so lovely, I’ve been dying to get my hands on it ever since it arrived from Etsy! Her shop (which I won’t reveal, because I think the yarn name is a giveaway) is soft and lovely.
The yarn I chose has very short stretches of each color, so I’m thinking about retrying the Falling Leaves pattern from Knitty. My main issue with my first try is that the sock was huge, even though I followed the directions and met gauge. I’d used size 0 needles. But my SP has larger feet, so that’s a thought. There are also some lovely rib patterns in Nancy Bush’s books. Devin has been making the Diagonal Cross-Rib socks by Ann Budd from Favorite Socks Gentleman’s Shooting Stocking from Vintage Knitted Socks (sorry Devin, I could have sworn it was a Nancy Bush pattern, but..) Unfortunately, Devin is a little nervous about using the digital camera. Go and poke him into showing you his beautiful knitting. The socks are to die for and I think I talked him into knitting them for himself. He usually knits for others. His socks are much nicer than the ones in the book’s photo and I’m convinced the pattern is actually wasted on solid yarn. (This part is still true.)

Hmm. I finished the first sleeve of the baby baseball tee and it just occurred to me. July is hot. It’s hot here though. Here it’s 90 degrees and humid. In Colorado Springs, where this sweater is destined, it’s 74 and dry during the day and 52 and dry at night. So here’s the question for you. Would you put a long-sleeve sweater/tee on a 3 month old baby in this weather? It’s 80% Cotton and 20% wool. The parents probably don’t have air conditioning.
I can see I’d better write an article on knitting for babies. For my own edification if for no other reason. I’m clearly having issues with the variables of size, sex, birth timing and weather. It will be called knitting for babies for dummies.

It’s been hot. And it’s still hot. Some news for you. I’m not moving until July 15th. My husband and I did this in an elaborate attempt to score an apartment within walking distance to Willamette and downtown Salem. It’s going to be a 9 minute walk. I’m hoping we’ll both shed a few pounds as a result.
Did I mention my interview went well? At least I think it did. I won’t find out until the 25th at any rate. In the mean time, I’m buried in applications. It really says something about the suitability of life in Oregon for us. I don’t ever remember applying for this many jobs during any other move.
I think somehow in the middle of all the traveling I’ve been doing I’ve gotten out of the blog habit and now that it’s hot, I’m feeling lazy. I’m not too lazy to knit in my air conditioned office. I’m just too lazy to take photos. Anyway, I’ve been working on my Hurricane Party sock, which is nearly three weeks late and am happy to say that I’m down near the heel. I’ll put up some photos on this entry tomorrow, but I’m determined to have an entry up now that I’m back home again.
My friends have adopted a little baby from China and I’m making him one of those Baby Baseball Tees from Knit 2 Together by Tracy Ullman and Mel Clark. I’m using Brown Sheep in baby blue and brown. I meant to use the brown as the main color and the blue as the sleeves, but I guess I got mixed up when I cast on. I’m just about to do the sleeve shaping. Again, photos tomorrow.
Someone asked me about how long I had the multi-directional scarf on and it was less than 5 minutes. It also wasn’t kind of breezy actually.
My reunion went as well as I could possibly expect. Fortunately, the drink tickets we got with our event tickets were worth some fairly heavy fruity drinks and I found the evening rather enjoyable as a result. As my husband pointed out, I was doing quite well. This is nothing my high school friends probably would understand as I think my social anxiety took a long time to fully creep up on me. Up until the time I met my husband, I was fighting it like the devil. In fact, that’s how I met him. I promised myself I would meet new people and make new friends for a couple of months in college. I ended up with Josh. Pretty good score, eh?
It was a pretty self-selecting crowd and I have to say it turned out about as well as I could have asked for except for my friend Nick not making it at all due to a personal crisis with his house. So maybe I’ll turn up for my 20. I think we got the people who don’t measure success in terms of money. Given that I went to a prestigious private high school that’s saying something. Granted, the school is still relatively down to earth. It’s all relative. Read the rest of this entry »

My Hurricane Swap Party swap partner, Dawn sent me an absolutely fabulous package which arrived on Saturday. I’m afraid I’ve been so swamped that I’m personally behind on my own swap package. I’m still knitting the sock! I told my giftee and she understands thank goodness. I did however buy all her goodies. Whee!
Back to thanking Dawn. She gave me a really funny hint. Ba Ba Ba. Turns out it was a Boston Red Sox themed package, since I don’t hail from a hurricane state!
There were peanuts and cracker jacks. And bubblegum. There were items from the Texas Rangers stitch-n-pitch And some nice things to listen to! There was a lovely hand-dyed red (originally Big Papi from Etsy) Horcrux sock and some kool-aid if I want to overdye the white spots (which I don’t). I’ll dye something else. I’m going to have fun knitting that up. And my favorite, I think, is the ‘I’d rather be in Fenway’ mug, but I’m also totally in love with that knitting notions bag.
Thanks again! All wonderful. Maybe I’ll go put some tea in that mug.

I finished my HUGE job application last week and spent the weekend in recovery. I’ve been a bad blogger and left you photoless recently. I bet you’d actually like to see the scarves I’ve been working on. The first two shots are of one scarf that’s made of scrap Noro Kureyon.

Even when I’m under a deadline, I still make time for knitting. I went off to the Wednesday night meet up and had a good time again. I was a little late because I’d made a stop at Needleworks Unlimited to spend the last amount on my card before I got a $20 gift certificate. So I bought a pile of stuff. It’s not yarn diet breakage.
I purchased a couple of things for my No Sheep for You Pal which I can’t show you. I also made a huge mistake. The basic rule behind the No Sheep for You swap is the entire lack of wool fiber in the yarn and I picked up TOFUtsies, thinking it was mainly soysilk. Ooops. I guess I’ll bring it back. The other skein is pretty nice though and I’ll send it off over the weekend.
I guess I’m a little scarf obsessed at the moment. Not only am I working on two chevron scarves, but I started two Multi-directional scarves as well. One is in Noro Kureyon and the other in Silk Garden. But hey, I learned how to juggle scarves in college.Just not 4 at a time.
This weekend I’ll be working on my slightly overdue Hurricane Sock party project. SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My essays took priority.

I love these socks. Just how I like ‘em, which is the whole point of knitting them yourself right? (Kind of.) Actually, next time I might make ‘em a little taller. I finished them on Wednesday, but I needed to finish writing about New York.
My favorite thing about these are the Lucy Neatby garter stitch heel I used. No holes and no gusset!
Also great is that these are my Project Spectrum 2.0 socks, my May Socks for the knit a sock a month KAL and count towards the Lime and Violet Sock Marathon. (I’ve down about 900 yards so far.) Next I’m going to finish up my Koigu monkey socks.
By the way did you know there’s a knit 52 pairs of socks in a year KAL? Check out the 52 Pair Plunge.
Pattern: My Own
Style: Toe-up on two circular needles
Stitch: Used continental style knitting! Yeah!
Heel: Lucy Neatby’s garter stitch heel
Yarn Source: Three Bags Full
Yarn: Sweet Georgia – Afterglow (temporarily discontinued)
Needles: 32″ Size 0 Addi Circular (two pairs)
They are the best fitting pair of socks I’ve made for myself. I had 56 stitches around at the beginning, but after the heel I’d increased it to 62 so they’d feel nice around my leg. I might make a taller pair sometime.

Wow, I’m down to the wire again with the whole packing thing. But first, let you know that Karrie won the contest. I’ve gotten her choice, but I’ll leave it to her to reveal it to you on her own blog when she gets it.

Well, when we took Sparty to the vet to have her teeth cleaned, one of her blood tests was slightly abnormal. So, we’ll just work on the assumption that she does have CRF. It’s not from contaminated pet food, but thanks for asking. She eats Newman’s Own Organic normally. Thank goodness for small favors. Now she’s on a special diet, which she loves. I would bet she’s going to gain a pound.
Here’s an update on my Project Spectrum 2.0 projects.
Some more socks coming up.

Yarn Purchase #1: I decided to head out a little early because I’d found out that Knitter’s Palette had gotten in a new shipment of Lorna’s Laces and I wanted to check it out. I ended up with this pretty Cherry Tree Hill instead.
Then, I headed over to Pad Thai where I met up with a monster pile of knitters. Thank goodness Chris already labeled her photo, because I really didn’t know who everyone was.

From the left, Chris of Stumbling Over Chaos, CursingMama, flat Vicki Knitorious (the photo), Beadslut, Jess of Mikknit, Connie, Cynthia, and Amy. I had a great Green Curry. Tasty.
Correction: Limedragon was NOT at dinner. Phew.

I finished my Saratoga Sunburst inspired purse. Sort of. Kind of.I had trouble attaching the handles. I think I just don’t own good enough thread. But I safety pinned on the handles so I could take the bag around. Hmm, I bet it shouldn’t go through airport security. They probably don’t like safety pins. Of course, half the handbags out there have heavy metal chains on them. I wonder what security does with those.

Author’s Note: I started to write this post on Saturday, had a poor internet connection, and decided to take a nap instead of finishing it and posting it.
I feel like death warmed over. I’m just plain beat. I think I’ve got a fever and I’m exhausted. Fun huh? I spent the last two days of the work week at home. Tomorrow I’m going to go to work and I am feeling better, so I hope it will be okay. It’s only for a few hours. Since there don’t seem to be any visible symptoms other than a mild fever and exhaustion, I’m guessing the antibiotic the doctor gave me on Tuesday for my sinus infection knocked me for a loop. You take three pills and get hit for a week drugs. But I’ll have to go back to work. I can’t afford to be out any longer. I’ll just keep getting extra sleep. I seriously hope it isn’t the antibiotics; at least then I’d stand a chance of getting better prior to my trip.
In the mean time, my couch bound self was knitting up a sock madness storm with the new madtini socks. Didn’t go so well. I missed Rounds 3-7 of the directions for the pattern and knit something completely different. It was okay looking, but strangely, not what the pattern described (an oblique spiral). Then I looked at some of the other madtinis inprogress and started to realize something was wrong.

I felt like a bonehead, but I ripped out the heel and the leg and am now back to the beginning of the second repeat of the pattern. Anyway, you can look at my wonderful technique of picking up heel stitches.

Check this out. I’m so excited about the way it felted! Tonight, I’ll attach the bag handles and I’ll take it with me on my trip to Portland. I might have to add one snap to the bag so nothing falls out of it. Also, I’ll have to locate a sweater shaver and do a little triming.
I really like the way I set it up to dry and I do think it’s drying much more quickly than it would otherwise. Those are two metal cookie racks and a cookie pan. The pan prevents the racks from spreading apart and catches the drips. There were a lot of drips! The racks are tied together at the top with some Noro ends.
Also, when I was hunting around on the Mason-Dixon knitting blog, I discovered that Ann and Kay are going to be in Portland Wednesday night at Abundant Yarn! If only my husband will let me/take me, I can go! I’m also supposed to be having coffee with a friend, so I hope it will all work out.
Whee. That would give me a huge chance to meet Portland and Oregon knitters before I move. The other thing was that they were collecting urls of Portland knit bloggers, so I can add them to my list of all knitting things Oregon…

I admit I didn’t get very far with Head Games. I got wrapped up in my CPH Hoodie project and so had barely done anything when my new hat appeared. It’s great. It’s a bit deep for me, (so it’s rolled up so you can’t see the cable properly) but someday I’ll fix it. The yarn is very soft. It’s Classic Elite Yarns Waterlilly and 100% merino. Thanks to Nephele (Liz) for doing such a great job. There’s always Sock Madness and KnitOff with which I could redeem myself.
There was some snow today, so I missed my LYS knitting group. I’m so sad, but my cold is still pretty bad so being at home is probably good for me.

On a personal note, still have a nasty fever and my stomach still hurts somewhat. I clocked the fever at 101.2 and I absolutely can not sleep because I’m too hot, despite some ibuprofen. That’s why I’m working on the sock and posting at 2am.
I finally got my sock heel together. I don’t think it shows very well, but I did the heel flap finally with the brackets in the correct order and then turned the heel on the same needle. Aah, such satisfaction. I’ve actually finished the gusset (that’s the easy part), using the technique of picking up the stitches by knitting them through the back loop. It looks good. Now onto the foot!
