Yarn Stores

I’ve been to the to nearly every yarn shop in Portland, although new ones keep cropping up. I’ve also been to both our local stores in Salem and the one in Corvallis. In Hood River, I checked out Knot Another Hat*. I’ve been to Soft Horizons and the Knit Shop in Eugene, where I met an extraordinatry lace knitter. The Ben Franklin Craft and Frame Shop in Springfield sells high quality yarns and has wonderful regular sales. There’s a new shop (Thimbles and Threads) in Junction City also with a small but growing selection of yarns. Earlier this year I went to Websters in Ashland. I love Websters and am planning to stop there on my way to San Francisco every time.

What’s not to like about a place that carries Socks That Rock in all three weights, Silkie Socks and some of the other Blue Moon handpaints? The counter person even asked me how I liked to knit my socks (magic loop, two at a time, dpns).

  • Tangled Purls**, ***
2290 Commercial St SE Suite 140
    Salem, OR 97302
They have everything a gal could ever want. Big names like Malabrigo and Indie Dyers like Abstract Fibers and little old Three Fates Yarns, so pardon my bias. They’ve got Kauni and Spud and Chloe. It’s all fantastic and I love it. Go here for Addi Turbo and HiyaHiya or Crystal Palace Needles.
  • Teaselwick Wools **, ***
    Mission Mill
    1313 Mill Street SE
    Open Mon – Sat, 10am – 5pm (503) 586.0232
    Owner: Tracy
Really cute store with Imperial Stock Ranch, Jill Eaton and Malabrigo. Tracy also carries Kauni and more brands than I can name. Right in the middle of the mill, so that’s awesome. Needles include the always useful and inexpensive Takumi Clovers.
    Crafter’s Warehouse.
    3930 Rickey St SE
    Salem, OR
    (503) 589-1377
Among their yarns is a nice selection of Cascade 220, but I recommend going to Teaselwick Wools first. Note on Weds at 6 PM they have a happy hour where you can get 40% off one item with a coupon.
  • I live here, so if you want to stop in, message me.

I must point out that you left out my favorite Eugene yarn store, Textiles a Mano. Laura, the owner, sells her own hand-dyed yarn, plus some commercial and local brands, along with Dicentra and Ashland spinning fibers. She hosts knitting and spinning gatherings multiple times a week in the spacious back room of her shop.

I knew she was down there, but not that she carried other yarns. It might take some time, but I will put add her!
